How to add an email signature on iPhone and iPad
The iPhone Mail app does accept a pasted signature, but it's the least forgiving client on this list: it often flattens formatting and can drop images. Here's how to get the best result, and what to expect.
- ABOUT 3 MIN
- iOS & iPadOS (Mail app)
- Partial formatting
- Images not reliable
Step by step
6 steps- 1
Step 01 / 06
Copy the signature on the iPhone itself
Open the builder in Safari on your iPhone and tap Copy signature. (Universal Clipboard from a Mac also works if both devices use the same Apple Account.)
- 2
Step 02 / 06
Go to the Mail settings
Open Settings › Apps › Mail and scroll down to Signature. On iOS 17 and older, it's Settings › Mail › Signature.
- 3
Step 03 / 06
Pick all accounts or one
With more than one account, choose All Accounts or Per Account. Then delete the default “Sent from my iPhone”.
- 4
Step 04 / 06
Paste it in
Tap and hold in the empty box and choose Paste.
- 5
Step 05 / 06
Undo the flattening
If it turns into plain text, shake your iPhone straight away and tap Undo (“Undo Change Attributes”). That often brings the formatting back. On iPad, use the undo arrow above the keyboard or swipe left with three fingers.

Step 06 / 06
Go back and test
Tap back (it saves automatically) and send a test email. What you see in the settings box isn't always what recipients get, so check the test on another device.
P.S. Good to know
- Keep the mobile version short: name, role, phone, one link. Our compact templates work best on iPhone.
- Logos and photos don't always survive. If yours disappears, a text-only signature on the phone is perfectly normal.
- Using the Gmail or Outlook app instead of Apple's Mail app? Those have their own signature setting inside the app.
Not working?
The most common problems, and what to do about them.
The signature turned into plain text.
Shake the iPhone right after pasting and choose Undo. If that doesn't help, Mail has stripped it for good. Keep it simple or use a text-only version.
Does my Mac signature sync to my iPhone?
No. Apple Mail on Mac and the Mail app on iPhone keep separate signatures. You set up each one.
My logo doesn't show.
iOS often drops images from pasted signatures. Recipients' apps can also block remote images. A text signature on mobile is fine; your desktop signature can carry the logo.
No signature yet?
Make one in two minutes.
Free, no account, no watermark. Copy it and paste it into iPhone & iPad with the steps above.
Kind regards,
